Dual band routers are definitely costlier than a regular router. Are they worth it?
First of all lets understand what does a dual band router mean.
A dual band router allows you to create two WiFi networks simultaneously, which operate at two frequency bands of 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz. While a regular router allows you to create just one WiFi network operating at 2.4 Ghz.
What are its advantages?
The 5 Ghz frequency band gives you a more stable network, which makes it suitable for HD streaming and online gaming. But the range of the network is comparatively less as compared to 2.4 Ghz frequency band.
So you can use the 2.4 Ghz network for regular internet browsing, while the 5 Ghz network for streaming and gaming.
Another advantage is that if you have several WiFi networks in your locality, the 2.4 Ghz band may get congested and you will face problems with your network because all of the conventional routers work on 2.4 Ghz frequency.
